Kingsway Square

Kingsway Square is the latest new development in the urban regeneration of Bishop Auckland in County Durham. The project will see the creation of a new public square, creating a vibrant green space in one of the town's most prominent retail areas.

Our design is driven by a desire to replace a brownfield site of derelict buildings with an inspiring public space, interlaced with elements of landscaping and creative planting, to create a playful and relaxing space. The scheme incorporates an imaginative children's play space, woven into the public walking route from the main high street through to the car park at the rear of the square. Coloured paving is used to highlight the primary traffic route, playfully allowing children to navigate the paving stones to direct them around the play equipment.

The green landscaped car park has been designed with areas of planting integrated into the parking surface finish to visually break up the extent of hard surfacing and allow rainwater to permeate below ground.
