The Old Police Station is a 5-apartment visitor and holiday accommodation scheme in the historic town of Leyburn, on the edge of the stunning Yorkshire Dales.
This beautiful historic building in the Leyburn conservation area has been used for over 100 years as a police station. It will require a full refurbishment and upgrade to enable residential use.
For this project, the brief was to appraise all the options to get the most out of this now vacant building. Historic plans show that from the late 19C there was a large rear extension to the police station that was demolished sometime after 1956. This offered a precedent on the site for the design of a contemporary rear extension that complements a sympathetic refurbishment of the historic frontage. Stone reclaimed from demolition on site is used to construct the ground floor base of the extension, whilst the first floor and roof are clad in a dark grey recycled composite cladding.
We use our experience of working with historic buildings, applying industry best practice and a creative approach, to bring high-quality visitor accommodation to North Yorkshire.
